Safety Studies

Intersection Safety Evaluations

BRPC conducted three safety improvement studies, which were recommended in the 2003 Transportation Plan. The three study locations were intersections along East Housatonic Street [PDF 2.75MB] and Fenn Street [PDF 2MB] in Pittsfield and the Division Street/North Plain Road Intersection [PDF 811KB] in Great Barrington . Those intersections are among the highest crash locations in the region. The findings of these studies will be presented to the respective City Councils or Select Boards for implementation.

Safety Facts Book [PDF 251K]

This data book presents analysis of traffic crashes reported in Berkshire County from 1998 to 2001. The purpose of this report is to give readers a better understanding of current traffic safety issues, causal factors and trends of traffic crashes, number and types of crashes, severity of injuries, and other useful information. The information in the report has many uses in regional transportation planning, including corridor studies, prioritization of safety-related capital improvement projects and monitoring the effectiveness over time of various safety improvement strategies.   It is also hoped that this report can be used as a tool in raising public awareness of traffic safety trends and the causes of crashes.
